According to a recent study, a concussion seems to accelerate biological brain aging by as much as 30 years!

The brain of rugby union players was investigated to discovery this. It turned out that concussed players have more unstable, cell damaging molecules (free radicals) in their blood and less beneficial molecules (nitric oxide) that allow more oxygen and glucose to get to the brain. Oxygen and glucose are the most important resources for our brain to function. Lack of both leads to low concentration, unclear thinking, confusion, memory and learning problems…. you name it. It can also make people who had a concussion more vulnerable to dementia in later life.

Although the study was focused on professional rugby players, you don’t necessarily need to be one to get a concussion. Enjoy your life but be careful!
