We know that sleep and exercise have a direct effect on our productivity the next day. But did you know that unhealthy eating or snacking late in the evening immediately affects your performance and behaviour at work the next day as well? At least, according to a recent small study.

The study found out that unhealthy eating in the evening can make people less helpful and more withdrawn the next day at work. Unhealthy eating was defined in the study as perceived feeling of too much junk food, too much eating or drinking or too many late-night snacks. This unhealthy eating behavior turned to have both physical (headaches, stomachaches and diarrhea) and emotional (feeling guilty or ashamed) consequences, leading to changes in how people behave at work throughout the day.

One more interesting finding of the study was that the effect of unhealthy eating on work behaviour the next day is more prominent in less emotionally stable people.

So you see, eating habits are quite complicated. They are not only about the nutritional content, but also about the timing!
