They both can protect you against the sun damage. For sunscreens that is clear. But grapes?
We know that they are healthy. Grapes are packed with nutrients and are great source of antioxidants to fight (chronic) diseases and to improve general health. But did you know that they also may offer additional protection against skin damage otherwise caused by sunburn?
According to a small recent study, polyfenols in grapes can reduce acute UV radiation damage in healthy adults through increasing the natural protection of the skin by 74.8%!
The study used a powder of freeze-dried grapes orally for 14 days to find this out. It also showed that an extract from a grape seed polyphenol, proanthocyanidin, can reduce sunburn cell formation, if used topically.
Of course, these findings are pre-liminary and have to be replicated by larger studies, but they sound exciting, don’t they?
