Ever heard of the LIFE diet? It’s a nutrient dense whole food plant-based diet. It includes drinking one 32-ounce (or 946 ml) LIFE smoothie every day, eating at least 5 ounces (or 142 gr) by weight of dark green leafy vegetables in salad or cooked vegetables per day, and limiting consumption of whole grains, starchy vegetables, oils, dairy and red meat.

According to a recent case report, it might be worth trying the LIFE diet to ease the symptoms of chronic migraine. This advice is based on a sucessful treatment of a man, who had severe migraine attackes (without aura, occurring on 18–24 days of every month) for more than 12 years. Before trying the LIFE diet, the man used prescribed meds (Zolmitriptan and Topiramate); cut out potential ‘trigger’ foods, including chocolate, cheese, nuts, caffeine, and dried fruit; and practized yoga and meditation. All of these treatment options with no result.

After 2 months on the LIFE diet, the frequency of man’s migraine attacks had fallen to just 1 day a month; the length and severity of the attacks had also lessened. He stopped taking all his migraine meds. Even ‘challenge’ foods, such as egg whites and salmon, which triggered normally headache attacks, were much less painful and much shorter in duration than before.

After 3 months his migraines stopped completely, and they haven’t returned in 7.5 years. Even the man’s seasonal allergys improved to the point that he no longer needed to use medication. An outstanding result, isn’t it?

So, what is so special about this LIFE diet that could save this man from migraines? It all came down to increase of beta-carotene, a carotenoid with strong antioxidant properties that fights oxidative stress and reduces inflammation, both the hallmarks of chronic migraine. After starting a diet, the man’s normal beta-carotene levels went from 53 µg/dl to 92 µg/dl!

This case is the longest successful treatment of chronic migraine based only on dietary intervention. It is save and can be an effective and permanent treatment for reversing chronic migraine. Try it, if you are a migraine sufferer, and you might be surprised with the results!
