In a recent large study the researchers found that people with stroke had faster decline in their brain health and daily functioning up to 10 years before this serious life-threatening medical condition.
To come to this conclusion, the study investigated cognition and daily functioning of 14.712 participants between 1990 and 2016. The researchers found that participants who experienced stroke, had a steeper decline in cognition and daily functioning up to 10 years before stroke diagnosis compared to stroke-free control group.
It means that if you experience an accelerated decline in your brain health and daily functioning, your body is trying to warn you about accumulating damage inside your brain that increases your risk of having stroke in the upcoming 10 years. In this case, you need to take it seriously and undertake prevention actions to help your brain function optimally and to avoid this acute health event.
