Being a mother is the best that can happen to a woman. It gives a lot of positive emotions. At the same time raising a child is very challenging. It takes a lot of time, wisdom and patience to understand your child and guide him/her through life. On the other hand, there are other obligations, such as family and work. These all make it for women not easy to keep everything going smoothly.

The findings of a recent large 12-year long American study may give you a good reason to do what you are probably already doing, namely combining your role as a mother and as a colleague.

According to this study, memory of non-working mothers decreases by 2 times compared with those who work, albeit with breaks for maternity leave.

The study investivated the relationship between work, motherhood and changes in memory for more than 6.000 women over 55 years old. It turned out that women who did not work after the birth of their children, are more likely to suffer from memory problems after the age of 60.

Researchers believe that paid work helps women to keep their brain fit while performing work tasks and communicating with colleagues.

I hope this information is motivating to keep going to protect your brain from fast memory decline while getting older!
